Scrub Tanager

A brightly coloured tanager of dry scrub and forest edge on the Pacific slope of Colombia and Ecuador, often seen in pairs or small mixed flocks moving through low bushes and hedgerows in search of fruit and insects. Its turquoise crown and orange throat make it easy to pick out against duller scrub vegetation, and it tends to forage at eye level rather than high in the canopy, making garden edges and forest margins good places to look.
