Chub

A freshwater fish of rivers and streams across Europe, it favours moderate to slow currents near cover such as overhanging banks, weed beds or submerged branches, where it feeds on invertebrates, plant matter and occasionally small fish. It is most visible from bankside vantage points in clear, low water during summer, when individuals can be seen holding station in the current or rising to take food from the surface. Early morning and evening, when insect activity increases, often bring the most visible feeding behaviour.
