Striped Bass

A large, silvery fish with distinctive dark horizontal stripes, native to Atlantic coastal waters and rivers of North America and also established on the Pacific coast, moving between saltwater and freshwater as it spawns upriver in spring. Look for surface-feeding activity or breaking fish around structure, inlets and river mouths, particularly during the spring and autumn migrations when large schools move along the coast. Anglers and shore watchers alike often spot them by the disturbance created by feeding schools pushing baitfish to the surface.
