Commonly found in coastal waters, estuaries, and shallow bays, this highly social dolphin is typically seen in small groups riding bow waves, leaping clear of the surface, or corralling fish in coordinated shallow-water hunts. Watch for the distinctive grey dorsal fin cutting through the surface during regular breathing intervals, and listen for audible puffs and clicks near boat hulls or breakwaters where feeding activity concentrates. Morning hours on calm, glassy days offer the best sighting conditions, as surface disturbance is minimal and diurnal activity peaks shortly after sunrise, particularly in warmer months when prey fish school in nearshore waters.
