Collared Kingfisher

A blue-and-white kingfisher of mangroves, coastal woodland and wetlands across a wide range from the Red Sea to the western Pacific, often perching conspicuously on a bare branch or wire while watching for prey below. It takes a broad diet beyond fish, including crabs, insects and small reptiles, and its loud, harsh call often gives away its presence before it is seen. Early morning and low tide, when mudflats and shallows are exposed, tend to produce the most active feeding.
