About This Species
Look for this parrot in the mid-canopy of tropical forest and forest edge from Mexico through Central America, where it feeds on fruit and seeds and often travels in noisy pairs or small flocks. Dawn and dusk flights between roosting and feeding sites are the most reliable times to spot it, when its loud calls carry well before the birds come into view. Fruiting trees are worth watching patiently, since flocks return to favoured feeding sites over consecutive days.

- Watch from a distance with binoculars rather than approaching a perched or feeding flock, since parrots are quick to flush and repeated disturbance near nest cavities can cause them to desert a breeding attempt.
- Amazon parrots are subject to international trade controls in many range countries because of past pressure from the pet trade, and protections and enforcement vary by country, so never approach, handle, or attempt to feed wild birds.
- Report any evidence of nest poaching to local authorities rather than intervening directly.
