Purple-Throated Euphonia

This small South American finch specialises in mistletoe berries, so the easiest way to find one is to locate a fruiting mistletoe clump in forest edge, gardens or open woodland rather than searching at random. Males show a glossy blue-black crown and back against a bright yellow underside, while females are duller olive and yellow. Activity is steady through the day wherever fruit is available, with birds often returning to the same productive plant repeatedly.
