About This Species
Look high in leafy deciduous canopy and scrubby woodland edges, parks and gardens with tall trees during the breeding season across northern and central Europe; listen for a scratchy, mimicking song delivered from a hidden perch rather than expecting easy visual contact. Best located by ear at dawn or dusk, then patiently scanned for with binoculars as it forages among the outer leaves for insects.
