Bronze Mannikin

A tiny, gregarious finch of sub-Saharan Africa, usually seen in small flocks feeding on grass seeds in gardens, farmland, and other open, cultivated areas. It builds untidy, ball-shaped nests low down in shrubs and trees, often in small clusters, and is most active feeding in the early morning and late afternoon. Its constant soft, twittering contact calls between flock members are often the first clue to its presence in a hedge or seed head.
