Common Rosefinch

Look along woodland edges, riverside scrub and gardens across its wide Eurasian range, where it forages on the ground and in low bushes for seeds and buds. Males in breeding plumage show a distinctive rosy-red head and breast that make them stand out among duller finches, and their short, whistled song is a useful clue in scrubby habitat during late spring and summer. Dawn and dusk tend to bring the most active foraging and singing.
