Desert Finch

A stocky, pale finch of arid scrubland and rocky desert edges, it favors areas with scattered shrubs, weed patches, and dry watercourses where seeds are plentiful, often foraging on or near the ground in small flocks outside the breeding season. Watch for the striking black bill, rosy-pink wing flashes in flight, and listen for a soft, melodic twittering that can betray a flock feeding quietly among low vegetation. Spring and early summer bring the most activity around breeding sites in Central Asian semi-deserts and foothill zones, while water sources in dry landscapes are reliable draw points year-round, particularly in the cooler morning hours.
