Common Wood Pigeon

A large, plump pigeon of woodland, farmland, and increasingly urban parks and gardens across Europe, identified by white patches on the neck and wing visible both perched and in flight. Its soft, rhythmic five-note cooing is a familiar background sound of European woodland and gardens, and it often feeds on the ground in flocks in open fields and lawns. It is present year-round, with the clattering wing-noise of its take-off and display flights especially noticeable in spring.
