White-Tipped Dove

This stocky dove favours dense scrub, woodland edge, and thickets across the American tropics and subtropics, walking on the ground under cover more often than perching in the open. Listen for its low, mournful cooing rising in pitch, a common dawn and dusk sound in its range, and watch fruiting shrubs and forest trails where it forages on fallen seeds and berries. It is present year-round through most of its range, so any season works, though activity peaks in the cooler hours of morning and late afternoon.
