Common Carp

A large, deep-bodied fish found in slow rivers, lakes and ponds worldwide, native to Europe and Asia but introduced widely elsewhere. It feeds along the bottom in mud and silt, often stirring up cloudy water as it roots for invertebrates and plant matter, and is most visible in shallow, weedy margins during warm weather when fish move inshore to spawn. Barbels at the corners of the mouth and large, coarse scales distinguish it from other freshwater fish.
