Speckled Mousebird

Found in loose, chattering flocks that move through scrubby thickets, hedgerows and garden shrubbery across sub-Saharan Africa, often clinging upside-down or sideways while stripping fruit, buds and leaves. The shaggy crest and long stiff tail make it easy to pick out as it shuffles along branches rather than hopping. Look for small groups sunning themselves with wings spread on exposed perches in the early morning, a habit that gives good views before the day heats up.
