Yellow-Bellied Elaenia

Look at forest edges, scrubby clearings and gardens across Central and South America for a somewhat crested, olive-grey flycatcher that sallies out from an exposed perch to snatch insects before returning to the same spot. Its pale yellow belly and slight crest are the best field marks when it perches upright and alert. It is a vocal, conspicuous species where present, often detected by its distinctive burry call before it is seen.
