Chinspot Batis

A small, boldly patterned flycatcher of woodland and savanna across southern Africa, with black, white and rufous plumage and a habit of perching quietly at mid-height before sallying after insects. Its call, often rendered as a soft, whistled three-note phrase, is a reliable way to locate a pair holding territory in broadleaf or acacia woodland. It is generally more often heard calling from cover than seen sitting in the open.
