About This Species
A gregarious species that nests and forages in noisy colonies in trees, reedbeds and around farmland and villages, often alongside House Sparrows. Colonies are easy to locate by their constant chattering and are busiest and most visible during the breeding season. It is common across the Mediterranean and into southwest and central Asia.
Ethical Viewing Guidelines
- It is tolerant of people in most settings, so an ordinary viewing distance of a few metres is generally fine.
- Avoid disturbing active breeding colonies, and keep in mind that wild bird protection laws differ across its range in Europe, the Middle East and Central Asia.
