Daurian Redstart

A small, active robin-like bird found across East Asia, breeding in shrubby thickets and forest edge at higher elevations in China, Korea, Japan, and the Russian Far East, then moving down to lowland parks, gardens, and scrub for winter. Males show a striking combination of a pale grey crown, black face and throat, and bright orange-rufous underparts and rump, while frequently flicking their tail and wings from a low perch. It is often quite tame around human habitation in winter, making city parks and temple grounds in Japan, Korea, and eastern China good places to look during the colder months.
