Rosy Starling

An intensely social bird that breeds in huge, unpredictable colonies across Central Asia, often triggered by locust outbreaks, then winters in enormous flocks across the Indian subcontinent. Look for its rosy-pink body set against a glossy black head, wings and tail, usually moving in tight, wheeling flocks that sometimes mix with common starlings. Late spring and summer near a known colony, or winter roosts in India, offer the most dramatic viewing.
