• This is a tolerant species around people, so a few metres of distance while it feeds is generally sufficient.
• Rules protecting common birds from disturbance or nest interference vary between the southern African countries it occurs in, so it is safest not to assume any one country's approach applies elsewhere in its range.
• Avoid disturbing nest cavities in walls or thatch where it commonly breeds close to buildings.
